Please state your preference of practitioner when booking an appointment. Seeing the same doctor for each episode of care, will help to ensure continuity. We will try to meet your needs where this is possible, although you may have to wait longer for an appointment with a named practitioner due to other duties or commitments.

Evening Appointments

Do you find it difficult to attend the surgery due to work commitments?

You can now make an advanced booking to attend between 6.30pm – 8.30pm on a Monday and Wednesday. Ask the receptionist for details. The telephone line will not be in operation after 6.30pm, please call our reception team in good time if you need to confirm or cancel your appointment. The surgery car park will be locked at 6pm - there is parking available to the rear of the pharmacy.

Talking to a Doctor or Nurse on the Telephone

It is not always necessary to attend the surgery for advice, the doctors and nurses may be able to help you on the telephone. Inform the receptionist and she will book a telephone appointment time for someone to call you back.

Wondering about a sick note?

You can do a self certificate for the first week.

Just need to pass some information to the Doctor?

Leave a message with the reception team.

Wondering about a hospital result or not heard about a referral?

Speak to our secretaries.

Do I really need a medical opinion?

The chemist can answer questions about a variety of things including medication clashes, i.e. what tablets you can take together, what medication you can take for a cold or aches and pains?

Is my problem a prescription matter?

Speak to a Prescription clerk . Please keep a careful watch on your medication and re-order before you run out, please don’t use appointments for these.

Is it a Dental problem?

You need to see a Dentist. Remember they can issue prescriptions too. NHS Direct have information on how to find an NHS Dentist, they can be contacted on 0845 46 47 or at http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/.

Out of hours dental care is the responsibility of Wakefield District PCT, the out of hours emergency contact number is 0845 122 0221.

The British Dental Health Foundation can help you on subjects such as dental procedures and terms, oral hygiene, current UK legislation and regulations, NHS and private dental charges, complaints procedures, and referrals to other organisations. They can be contacted on 0845 063 1188 or at http://www.dentalhealth.org.uk/

Which professional do I need to see?
There are a variety of Health Professionals available for you to see here at the Practice, including Doctors, Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwife, and Health Care Assistant. Reception staff can help you choose the correct person.

Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception 0844 477 3140 before 10am if you require a home visit.

A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.

House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.

Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.

Test Results

In the interest of patient confidentiality we advise patients to obtain test results by telephone between 2.00 and 6.30pm.

Results can be given in person at the reception desk if the patient is happy to discuss personal data in an open environment. (Every effort will be made to maintain confidentiality)

Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

When you take your test you will be told how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice.

It is your responsibility to check your results and to make an appointment to discuss them with your doctor if your are advised to do so.
